Fantasy Park Disc Golf – Rockingham, Western Australia

Fantasy Park Press Release
PERTH, WA, Australia, September 12 –
There is a buzz among the community of Rockingham, as the city welcomes its first public disc golf course. The aptly named Fantasy Park is the newest home of disc golf in Western Australia and the venue is already being touted as one of the States best.
The course is free to play and open to the community anytime. At the first tee pad, players will find the main course sign which provides information about how to play and a map of the course. With two tee positions for its 9 disc catching baskets, the course offers 18 unique holes to suit participants of all ages and skill levels, providing a fun challenge that has people coming back to play time and time again.
Disc golf or Frisbee golf is similar to traditional golf. However, instead of using clubs and balls, players throw special golf discs from a tee into an elevated target basket. The sport was first created in the US in the late 1970’s, quickly spreading throughout the globe. Australia jumped on board the disc golf train in the early 1980’s, with several courses popping up across the country. However, it wasn’t until 5 years ago that the sport truly took flight thanks to the installation of new disc golf courses.
The team from locally owned disc golf course design company, Recreation Activity Design (RAD), have been at the forefront of this explosion. RAD’s mission to promote disc golf is strong in Perth, with the community embracing the sport wholeheartedly.
RAD’s General Manager Andrew Ferguson said, “there was a real desire from the local Rockingham community for access to their own disc golf course, as we received several enquiries from the public seeking professional advice about how to introduce the sport to their area. Working with the City, we found a suitable site for the facility that would enhance the space and provide access for the community to this inclusive outdoor activity.”
Chris Finn, Director at RAD, has played the sport for over 30 years said, “whether you’re 5 or 75, male or female, athletic or love your cake more than exercise – the sport is for everybody! Disc golf is like taking a walk with a purpose as you throw a frisbee into an elevated metal basket designed to catch discs,” Chris describes. Considered to be a true community activity, disc golf allows parents and children to step away from the screens that dominate their lives and engage in physical fitness and family bonding together.
“Disc golf has seen amazing growth around the world, and even in Perth we’ve seen amazing growth with local councils getting behind this community activity and installing courses in local parks and reserves, 11 in the last 2 years alone,”
says Finn. For more information about how you can help the RAD efforts, contact Chris Finn today.
